Early childhood
Early childhood begins at the conception and prevails to the end of 5 years. The child spends most of the time with its parents and the family members. The child is gifted with a special mind during this period which was named as absorbent mind by Dr. Maria Montessori. The child absorbs most of the knowledge such as attitudes, information, morals and language. Most of the ingredients that make up the personality are instilled in the child at this time of its life.
Capacity of the child
Each child is born with unique potential determined by the genes of its ancestors, most of them come from its parents and grand parents. This period of life is also considered as formative years. All what the child experience determines its attitude towards life. Unlike other living species child is not preprogrammed at the time of birth. It is born with only few major pre-programmed functions such as breathing, ability to suck milk and digestion. Function of the mind is 99.9999 percent subconscious t this stage of life.
Example for the potential of a child
Dr. Silvano Montenaro MD, a Montessori Teacher Trainer says that a 3 year old child could learn to speak 5 different languages fluently if proper environment is set. Environment is a good teacher. The method is simple. Five different people are appointed to speak their own languages with this child during the first year of life. The person who is appointed to speak a particular language with the child speaks only in that particular language always. The child will not speak as it is zero years of age. But the child's mind absorbs what is spoken. If the speaker speaks good language the child becomes fluent on the language which is latent in the subconscious mind. When the time arrives to speak, the child releases all what it has absorbed with absolute delicacy. The 5 languages are only an example for the child's capacity. It could be more!
